Haven't posted in a while but it seems like a good time to get back to it since it is an exciting time for N8. We have some great gigs coming up. We debut at El Mortero in Bretzville on November 26th and then we're back at The Gaslight on December 3rd. Come out and enjoy the show if you get the chance. We have a few new songs to break in: Jumper (3rd Eye Blind), Use Somebody (Kings of Leon), My Own Worst Enemy (Lit). Let us know if you have a song you'd like us to learn. We might just do it.

Thanks to everyone who came out to see us on the patio at Snap's on Friday and at The Gaslight on Saturday. A busy weekend but we had a great time. It looked like everyone else did too. Keep requesting those songs. If we don't know it we may learn it and play it the next time. We wanna know what you want to hear. Got a nice tip for playing Hey Joe at The Gaslight. Much appreciated! Some highlights included: Mr. Roy Rohrscheib stepping out from behind his kit to sing lead vocals (thanks to Jon Neukam for sitting in); a blistering version of AC/DC's Long Way to the Top featuring our own Dave Underwood on vocals and guitar (thanks for the request, Jonna!); and just seeing old and new friends enjoying themselves (but not too much, Drake!). Hope to see more in the near future. Check out the Gallery tab for a few new pictures of the group "in action".
Okay, I have a musical question to throw out there: Does anyone have a particular favorite album that really made a big impact on you when it was released, or when you first discovered it? I'm talking about an album (or CD, kids) that you played over and over as you tried to learn the lyrics to each of the songs (or, for us musicians, how to play the songs). An album that you immediately associate with a specific time or place, or one that really just seemed to connect with you for some reason. For me, that album was Synchronicity by The Police. It was released in 1983, went to the top of the charts in US and UK, and even won a grammy. It came with a monster hit, Every Breath You Take, but I really liked some of the others: Wrapped Around Your Finger, Tea in the Sahara, Murder by Numbers, and Walking in your Footsteps. This was the 5th and final album for The Police so they called it quits while at the top of their game. Anyway, that's my pick for favorite album. Have you got one?
Hi, everyone. I'm Mark and this is my new blog, "Bass Notes". I'm the bass player for the classic/alt rock band, N8, so I'll be using this blog as a an opportunity to talk about our band, as well as all things musical. I'll also weigh in on an assortment of other topics, many of which I know little to nothing about. So feel free to chime in and let's see if we can have some fun with this.
To begin, let's take a brief look at our new band. What, you may ask, is the name all about? Well, I could try to explain it with a little exchange which might go something like this: Curious One: "N8? What does that even mean?" Band Guy: "N8 is just shorthand for innate." CO: "Huh?" BG: "Innate. It means something that occurs naturally; in this case, an innate desire to play music." CO: "You're weird." BG: "Well, we wanted something simple that would be easy to remember." CO: "Oh. What was the name again?" Each of us has played in various classic rock bands over the years but this time around we wanted to blend classic and alt-rock so we could play a wider variety of songs and maybe attract a more diverse following. Will it work? I guess time will tell. At any rate, enjoy the site and please check out our calendar for upcoming shows. We hope to see you at one soon.

Bass NotesAuthor :Hi, I'm Mark, the band's Low Frequency Specialist (a.k.a. bass player). I like to talk about things and I won't let absolute ignorance of a given topic deter me. So approach with caution and keep your sense of humor close at hand. Archives
